Layers of Life

All across the world there are places being forgotten—places once loved by people. Although these buildings stand empty, their walls reveal stories of the people who were there in earlier days.

As a photographer, I enjoy exploring these places and uncovering the stories within them. It is exciting to be in buildings that were once filled with life and to see what they’ve become after years of neglect. The changes that abandoned buildings face are another layer of their stories for us to uncover.

Layers of Life invites an exploration of the beauty of things forgotten. The images are records of inhabitants, death and change in unseen spaces that will allow the stories and life of the building to carry on after its destruction. Above all, my photography aims to challenge the perception of abandonment and decay by opening eyes to the new beauty that these spaces acquire in the last years of their lives.
